Dawsons Sand Dune Safaris offers a number of Adventure Tours in one of their 13 seater purpose built HUMMER 4WD in beautiful Port Stephens. Tours are taken across the magnificent Stockton Sand Dunes and surrounding area with informative expert tour guides.

Experience unique and exhilarating ride in a HUMMER 4×4 (ex American Airforce saw service in Iraq) designed for the whole family. Tour highlights include beach and dune exploration of the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes, Sygna Shipwreck, viewing the amazing Tin City, visiting WWII sites, experiencing Sand Boarding and Pippi Observation.

Sandboarding

Take an adventure on the largest moving sand dunes in the southern hemisphere in one of Sand Dune Safaris purpose built 13 seat Hummer and 21 seat Coaster 4WD vehicles, On our shuttle tour you will go up and down some very large sand hills to the Sandboarding area (shade and chairs are provided) ,Where you will go sandboarding down the massive dunes at breath taking speed (not for the faint hearted ) but we do have some smaller dunes for those not so adventurous, Times: From 9am on (all day) Phone or Email to book

4×4 Tag-A-long Tour

Why not come and join us on our 2Hr Tin City Tour as a passenger in our vehicle, or Tag-A-Long in your 4×4 vehicle, Join in the fun, go sandboarding, see the sites and pick up some useful tips on getting about the sand dunes in your own vehicle. Includes NPAWS Permit.

Times: 9am / 1pm / 5pm

Departs: The 4×4 Entry point off Gan Gan road. If you have more people than you can carry in your Vehicle, we can help with our 4×4 Hummer.

Sygna Shipwreck Adventure Tour

An exciting fun filled 70 minute drive along the beach and across some of the 35 metre high sand dunes, visiting ‘Tin City’, the ‘Pyramids’ an old WWII site with some exhilarating Sandboarding and Pipi Catching along the way.

Your sand dune adventure continues to the Synga Shipwreck, a 58 thousand tonne Norwegian bulk carrier blown ashore in 1974 by strong winds on its maiden voyage. On the return journey by road we may drop in to Murrays Brewery for some Free Beer and Wine tasting if time permits

Tin City Sand Dune Adventure Tour

After an exciting 25 minute drive across the sand dunes you will find ‘Tin City’ emerging out of the sand dunes like a mirage! It all began in the late 1800’s when two tin huts were built to store provisions for shipwrecked sailors (there are some 98 shipwrecks between Newcastle and Port Stephens).

In the 1930’s Great Depression ‘Tin City’ grew to 14 huts. A number of movies have been made at this location, including parts of Mad Max. The pub still stands! Other activities on this tour include sandboarding and driving across the Massive Sand Dunes.
